Maestro/Maestra (the skeptical science teacher)

Maestro/a: Bienvenidos a la feria de ciencias. Empezamos con el proyecto

de Gabriel/a.

Gabriel/a (Lugging a large cardboard box to the front of the classroom):

Para mi proyecto hice una máquina del tiempo.

Maestro/a: ¿Una máquina del tiempo, Gabriel/a? ¿Y qué hace tu

máquina?

Gabriel/a (Proudly): Mi máquina cambia el tiempo, maestro/a.

Maestro/a: Gabriel/a, esto es imposible.

Gabriel/a: No maestro/a. Oprimo este botón (he points to the “rain” button)

y está lloviendo. Oprimo este botón (he points to the

“snow” button) y está nevando.

Maestro/a: Gabriel/a, esto es ridículo.

Gabriel/a: No, en serio. Si oprimo este botón, (he points to the “sun” button)

hace sol y hace calor también. Y si oprimo este botón, (he points

to the “ice” button) hace mucho frío.

Maestro/a (Sternly): Gabriel/a, esto es suficiente. Siéntate, por favor. Esta

es la feria de ciencias. ¡No es la feria de fantasías! (Maestro/a

grabs the box, inadvertently pressing the “wind” button. The wind [a large fan] begins blowing papers around.) ¡Ay, yay, yay! ¿Qué pasa?

Gabriel/a: ¡Maestro/a, usted oprimió el botón del viento!

Maestro/a: ¡Ay, mis papeles!

Gabriel/a: ¡Rápido, maestro/a! ¡Oprima el botón de “Hace buen tiempo”!

Maestro/a: ¿Cuál botón es?

Gabriel/a: El botón con la cara feliz.

[Maestro/a pushes the “smiley face” button and the wind stops blowing. She looks at Gabriel/a and the weather machine in amazement.]

Maestro/a: Es increíble, Gabriel/a. ¡De verdad es una máquina del

tiempo!

Gabriel/a: ¿Quiere ver lo que pasa cuando oprimo el botón con la lluvia?

Maestro/a: ¡No, no, no! Esta bien Gabriel/a. ¡Tu proyecto es fantástico!
